How to use the WCH After Hours Mental Health Service
An Emergency Mental Health Service is available 0800-0200 seven days a week at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The Emergency Mental Health Service provides an emergency psychiatric response to young people under the age of 18 and pregnant/perinatal women.
From 0830 - 1630 Monday - Friday please use the HeadStart Hotline.
From 1630 – 0200 (0800 - 0200 on weekends and public holidays), an Emergency Mental Health Nurse Consultant is available to discuss patients and provide options that may include
- discussion re risk management
- telephone contact with the patient/family
- presentation to Paediatric Emergency Dept (PED)
- facilitating referral to CAMHS Community or other community service
Ring 08 8161 7000 and ask switch to page the Emergency Mental Health Nurse. The Emergency Mental Health Nurse will liaise with an on call psychiatric consultant when appropriate.
During hours 0200-0800 all enquiries to go through the PED who can contact a Psychiatric Consultant on call if appropriate.
